Dry Eyes

Dry eye is one of the most common reasons patients go to see their eye doctor.  Dry eye occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears and/or the tears they produce are not healthy and evaporate too quickly.  It is often accompanied by a gritty/sandy sensation in the eyes. It can be a chronic, long-term condition that causes irritation, pain, tearing and can even compromise vision if it is left untreated.

Dry eyes can be caused by many things, including medications, age, hormonal changes, poor contact lens hygiene, and dry environmental conditions.  There are many methods to treat dry eye including the use of over-the-counter and prescription eye drops, oral supplements, and punctal plugs. Dr. Kalyani specializes in the cornea and external diseases and has expertise in the diagnosis, workup, and treatment of dry eye.
