Cataract Surgery

Cataracts cannot be treated with medications, but a cataract only needs to be removed when the impaired vision interferes with daily activities, such as driving, reading, or watching television.  In this case, your eye doctor may recommend cataract surgery.  During surgery, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL).  Cataract surgery is an out-patient surgery and most of the time can be performed in under 30 minutes.

New advancements in technology now allow patients to have more options in achieving the vision they desire after cataract surgery with reduced dependence on glasses.

Our surgeons have many years of experience performing both traditional cataract surgery as well as state-of-the-art bladeless, femtosecond laser cataract surgery using the LenSx laser platform.   With the use of the LenSx laser, our surgeons are able to perform a customized treatment unique to each patient’s eye with measurements that are taken in the office prior to surgery.  The laser also allows our surgeons to gently break up the cataract so there is less ultrasound energy needed during the surgery. Additionally, we offer premium intraocular lens implants that correct for astigmatism and presbyopia in order to minimize glasses dependence after cataract surgery.
