Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of diseases which cause damage to the optic nerve, resulting in vision loss.  If left untreated, it can result in permanent optic nerve damage and cause blindness.  Early detection and treatment of glaucoma can protect the eyes against this.

 

Several studies have shown that increased eye pressure is a risk factor for glaucoma.  Increased eye pressure occurs when the fluid within the eye cannot easily flow out. The increased pressure will damage the optic nerve and cause a gradual loss of peripheral vision. Our doctors are well equipped to diagnose, monitor, and treat glaucoma to prevent vision loss.
